Week 5 football recap: Lakers beat Chiefs; Raiders, Tigers earn wins; Pirates fall

Road teams dominated Friday night as Indian Lake, Benjamin Logan, and West Liberty-Salem scored victories, while Riverside and Bellefontaine came up short.

Indian Lake 45, Bellefontaine 21
Indian Lake raced out to a quick lead and never looked back, defeating host Bellefontaine 45-21 in a Central Buckeye Conference matchup.

The Lakers (3-2) led 28-7 at halftime, then used an interception on the first play of the second half to extend their advantage. Quarterback Brady Golliday was efficient, going 13-of-16 for 198 yards and three touchdowns while adding 100 yards rushing. Noah Shirk ran for three short scores, and Brodey Reisinger caught nine passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns, including a 70-yarder.

The Chieftains (2-3) were paced by Carter Caudill, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Quarterback Reign St. Clair threw for 262 yards, spreading completions among six receivers.

Benjamin Logan 37, Tecumseh 12
NEW CARLISLE — Benjamin Logan got back in the win column Friday night, rolling to a 37-12 victory at Tecumseh in a CBC crossover game.

The Raiders (3-2) leaned on their ground game, with Diesel Baughman rushing 13 times for 129 yards. Quarterback Wyatt Predmore added 54 yards on seven carries and completed five passes for 50 yards, including two connections with Brandon Heater for 31 yards.

Benjamin Logan opens division play next Friday at Graham.

Covington 34, Riverside 6
COVINGTON — Riverside was unable to keep pace with host Covington, falling 34-6 in Three Rivers Conference action.

The Buccaneers (2-3, 1-1 TRC) trailed 20-0 by halftime after three rushing touchdowns by Covington. The Pirates got on the board in the third quarter when Justin Mazariegos hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Brody Orsborne, but Covington added two more scores late to pull away.

Tony Robinson rushed for 116 yards on 16 carries to lead Riverside, while Orsborne was 3-of-14 passing for 35 yards, all to Mazariegos.

West Liberty-Salem 17, Greenon 13
SPRINGFIELD — Jake Lauck’s 34-yard field goal with 6:44 remaining lifted West Liberty-Salem to a 17-13 win at Greenon in Ohio Heritage Conference play.

The Tigers (3-2) leaned on Corbin Wallace, who carried 37 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Greenon’s Kai Ricks answered with a 75-yard touchdown run and a 19-yard touchdown reception, but a missed PAT proved costly.

Quarterback Beckett Sullivan was 7-of-13 for 48 yards for WLS, while Ricks finished with 122 yards rushing for Greenon.
