Washington Township Police: Traffic stop nets drug trafficking charges

Thomas Wolfenbarger, 50, of Kenton, was charged with possession of drugs (bulk), trafficking in drugs, having weapons under disability and possession of marijuana related to a traffic stop Wednesday, July 12.

Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol on U.S. Route 33 near Township Road 94 about 8:15 p.m. conducted a traffic stop on Wolfenbarger for a turn signal violation.

Upon making contact with the defendant, the odor of marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle. Thomas admitted to smoking marijuana in his vehicle just minutes prior to the traffic stop.

A probable cause search was conducted on Thomas’s person. A bag of marijuana was recovered from his pocket.

A probable cause search was conducted on his vehicle as well, and officers located two loaded handguns and three bags containing methamphetamine with a weight of 7 grams.

The defendant passed out and Indian Lake EMS was requested. Wolfenbarger was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment. Once released from the hospital, he was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.

Wolfenbarger has an extensive criminal record, officers noted.
