Wanda Evelyn Schmidt, 103, of DeGraff, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 in the home of her daughter. She was born in Logan County, Ohio on November 19, 1919, a daughter of the late Hamer W. and Lydia (Long) Smith.

In 1937, she graduated from Lewistown School. She married Howard M. Schmidt on May 29, 1945, in St. Paris, Ohio. They were married 63 years before he passed away in 2008.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Lorraine “Kay” (Larry) McMillen; two grandchildren, Cody (Kara) McMillen, and Darcy (Ross) Matson; two great grandchildren, Bo and Annie McMillen; a sister, Ruth Beard; and a sister-in-law, Vonnie Smith. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by an infant son; two sisters, Wilma Van Horn, and Edith Turner; two brothers, Jerry Smith, and Max Smith; two nephews and a niece.

Wanda had been employed at Gallaher Drug Store and the Monarch in Sidney, two grocery stores in DeGraff, and retired from the DeGraff Post Office in 1980 after 24 years. She was a member of the DeGraff United Methodist Church. Wanda dearly loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed music and watching Lawrence Welk, and poetry. She amazed everyone by reciting poems she learned as a child when she was 100 years old.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, February 17, at Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff, where Pastor Michael Mitchell will officiate a funeral service at noon. Burial will follow in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Wanda’s memory, to the DeGraff United Methodist Church, 1839 County Road 24 S., DeGraff, Ohio 43318 or a charity of your choice.

Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, DeGraff, is honored to serve the Schmidt family and encourages anyone to share a fond memory or message of condolence at www.edsfh.com.
