A DeGraff resident was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 13, on multiple counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, following an investigation by local authorities.
According to investigators, the case began after Logan County Sheriff’s detectives received a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force regarding the suspected illegal downloading of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The suspect was identified as 54-year-old Michael L. Walters. Detectives contacted Walters and conducted an interview, during which he later admitted to downloading CSAM from the internet and the dark web over a period of nearly a year, authorities said.
Following the interview, detectives executed a residential search warrant at Walters’ home. Several electronic devices and external storage drives were seized during the search. Investigators reported that an initial review of a portion of the data revealed confirmed CSAM files estimated to be in the thousands.
Walters is currently being held in the Logan County Jail.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are expected.
