SPRINGFIELD — A funeral visitation has been set for a Kenton Ridge High School sophomore who died tragically in an accidental shooting Saturday evening, Nov. 9, in a house in Northridge, just northeast of Springfield.

Visitation for 15-year-old Raymond “Ray” M. Estep is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, 830 N. Limestone St., Springfield.

A private service will be held Monday. Burial will be at Ferncliff Cemetery.

The shooting occurred when a 16-year-old boy, in an “ill-fated moment of horseplay” pointed a gun at Estep and pulled the trigger, thinking the weapon was unloaded, the Springfield News-Sun reports.

Estep sustained a single gunshot wound to the torso and was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The 16-year-old has been charged with reckless homicide and is currently lodged in the Juvenile Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Estep’s funeral expenses and for a memorial scholarship in his honor.
