A defendant involved in thefts following the March tornado at Indian Lake and another linked to drive-by shootings in two different municipalities were sentenced to prison on Wednesday, Sept. 5, in Logan County Common Pleas Court.

Jeffrey Rivers, 63, of West Mansfield, was sentenced to five-to-seven and a half years in prison by Judge Kevin Braig.

Rivers previously pleaded guilty to seven counts of breaking and entering and one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. The defendant was one of three individuals charged in March after deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed him near a trailer loaded with stolen property, including a motorcycle.

The incident occurred late at night in the Stites parking lot on County Road 130, where Rivers and two others were seen attempting to transport items from storage units.

In a separate case, Tyler Cabot, 20, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to three-to-four and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of complicity to improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, both second-degree felonies.

Cabot was connected to drive-by shootings that took place in Bellefontaine around August 13, 2023. The Bellefontaine Police Department investigated multiple shooting locations, including residences on West Brown Avenue and South Detroit Street. The defendant was also linked to an unlawful firing of a weapon in Russells Point.

Both sentences followed the recommendations of Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, the court reports.
