Two claimed in motorcycle crash

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — Two people were killed in a motorcycle-involved crash that occurred around 5:16 p.m., Sunday, July 7, at the intersection of east State Route 29 at south Ludlow Road, in Union Township.

John Howard Baker, 65, and Alisa Britton, 51, both of Huber Heights, were killed after the motorcycle they were operating crashed into a pickup truck hauling a travel trailer, deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office report.

Baker reportedly was operating a 2024 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound on south Ludlow Road when he failed to yield at the intersection of S.R. 29 and pulled into the path of the 2004 Ford pickup driven by Kevin Criss, 30, of Carrollton.

Baker and Britton were thrown from the motorcycle, which to rest in the ditch on the north side of east S.R. 29, where it caught fire.

Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. Britton was transported to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Criss and the passengers in the truck were treated by Mechanicsburg Fire and EMS on scene. The Multi-County Crash Team, consisting of Sheriff’s Offices from Union, Hardin, Logan and Champaign Counties investigated the traffic crash.

This incident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
