A fourth-quarter surge by Triad’s girls basketball team came too late as visiting West Jefferson held on for a 59-53 win Thursday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.
The Cardinals slide to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the OHC North division, while the Roughriders move to 5-5, 4-3.
West Jefferson held an 11-9 lead to end the opening quarter and went on a 21-14 run in the second quarter. That gave the Roughriders a 32-23 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, West Jefferson outscored Triad 11-7. That made it a 43-30 score.
The Cardinals attempted to rally in the fourth quarter with a 23-16 run, but couldn’t catch the Roughriders.
Frani LeVan paced the Cardinal attack with 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists, Cati LeVan tallied 13 points and Olivia Butz had 12 points.
Triad travels to Madison Plains on Saturday for another OHC contest.
