A traffic stop resulted in a felony drug arrest shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, by deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with officers from the Washington Township Police Department.
Carl Dennin, 45, of Springfield, was charged with possession of fentanyl-related compound following the traffic stop on State Route 720 in the area of Township Road 239.
Law enforcement on patrol observed Dennin operating a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck with expired registration, and initiated the stop.
Dennin was asked to step out of his vehicle because his driver’s side window wouldn’t go down. Signs of drug use were observed. The defendant admitted to a history of Oxycontin abuse, but denied having any drugs in his vehicle.
A consent search of the vehicle was conducted and law enforcement recovered a small clear plastic baggie containing a white and blue powdery residue on the passenger side near Dennin’s phone. The substance was later identified as crushed pills.
Additionally, a brown paper napkin with a keychain vessel containing a white powdery substance and blue chunks was found in the center console. Preliminary field tests indicated the substance was fentanyl.
Dennin was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail.
