A slow start and finish cost Bellefontaine a win.
Bellefontaine lost to visiting West Liberty-Salem 43-35 in non-league girls basketball action Monday evening.
Both teams started slow, with the Lady Tigers nursing a small lead through the first half. They stretched it in the third period before Bellefontaine rallied to tie it at 31.
However, WL-S kept Bellefontaine to just four points in the final period to earn the win.
For Bellefontaine, now 1-1 on the year, Quinlan Zedeker had 10 points. Emma Whitaker and Tiffany Boop chipped in with eight apiece.
“West Liberty played tough. They’re scrappy,” said Chiefs coach Meghan Ashcraft. “They hit a lot of outside shots and we didn’t defend it well. We need to get better at defending the 3-point shot. We need to get better at our motion offense, and moving the ball around. We weren’t shooting the ball well tonight at all.” She added that “we’ll have games like this with ups and downs. We just have to build on it from here and get better.”
Bellefontaine was also missing a couple of players due to injuries and illness, leaving them with just two on the bench.
