West Liberty-Salem finally opened its regular season Monday, recording a 5-0 win and a no-hitter against visiting Triad in Ohio Heritage Conference play.
Senior Jake Evans was the man on the mound, throwing 66 strikes on his 93 pitches, and racking up 16 strikeouts, with just one walk. That walk came on the next-to-last batter of the night.
The Tigers got two runs in the first, one in the second, and two in the fourth.
Reese Oder had three hits and Caleb Hershberger two for the Tigers. Isaac Sertell drove in two runs and Hershberger one.
Taking the loss was JJ Roberts for Triad, who pitched 3 2/3 frames, giving up six hits and two walks. He struck out six. Blayk Thomas finished up, with 2 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and one walk.
Evans reached on an error in the bottom of the first, getting to second on the play. A single by Hershberger moved him to third, and a passed ball allowed him to get across the plate. Sertell then brought in Hershberger with a sac fly to left.
In the second, Dallas Koons was hit by a pitch. He stole second and moved to third on a groundout, then scored on a line drive to right by Hershberger.
Evans singled, stole second, then used a pair of groundouts to score in the fifth.
A walk, error and hit batter loaded the bases for WL-S. Another passed ball let Isaiah Reames score to account for the final margin.
The teams play again today at Triad.

Indian Lake 5, Shawnee 0
Indian Lake blanked visiting Shawnee in CBC Mad River play.
The Lakers are now 1-0 in conference and 2-1 overall.
Starter Madden Lillard got the win, going 4 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six.
Working in relief were Tyler Tidwell for one inning and Cooper Hall for 1 1/3. Tidwell got one strikeout and Hall had a pair.
Kolton Cummins had a double. Cummins, Chance Persinger and Jaxon Snipes each got an RBI.
Indian Lake scored twice in the third, and one each in the second, fourth and fifth innings.
Colten Corcoran walked, stole two bases and scored on a hit by Snipes in the second.
Three walks and a hit batter forced in one run, and Cy Cummins scored the other on a passed ball in the third.
Tidwell reached on an error and came around in the fourth. Kolton Cummins doubled, stole third and crossed on a single by Persinger in the fifth.
Indian Lake hosts Kenton Ridge today at 5:15 p.m.

Ben Logan 9, North Union 0
Ben Logan shut out host North Union in a CBC Mad River contest.
They are now 2-0 in the CBC and 3-1 overall.
Bryden Morris hurled a complete game for the win, holding the Wildcats to three hits and one walk. He had five strikeouts.
Carter Lyden had two hits. Cayden Brown drove in a pair of runs, with one each by Lyden and Camden Spriggs.
Ben Logan got three runs in the first, one apiece in the second and third, then tacked on four more in the sixth.
A dropped third strike and North Union error led to the three Raiders runs in the first.
Soli Hughes reached on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a hit by Lyden in the second.
Two hits and an error saw Brown make it 5-0 in the third.
In the sixth, Ben Logan saw the first six batters reach safely as they got plenty of insurance.
The Raiders travel to London this evening. Game time is 5:15 p.m.

Riverside 11, Ansonia 1
Riverside got a road win over Ansonia in five innings.
Hayden Sanford led the Pirates offense with two hits. Aiden Manning drove in three runs and Hayden McCully two. One RBI each went to Camden Shoe, Cooper Crouch, Landon Purtee and Sanford.
Crouch went the distance on the mound, allowing one hit and four walks, with seven strikeouts.
Riverside scored one in the second and two in the third before erupting for eight in the fourth.
Riverside (4-3) will host Troy Christian today.
