West Liberty-Salem’s volleyball team won a local matchup to start Division III tournament action Wednesday as the Tigers defeated Indian Lake in three sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 at Brookville High School.
The third-seeded Tigers improve their record to 18-5 and play 10th-seeded Dayton Christian (15-8) in the sectional semifinal at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Brookville.
The Lakers end their season with a 5-18 record.
Michele Smith paced WL-Salem’s attack with 20 kills. She also had one ace on 5-6 serving and 20 digs. Alex Burton tallied nine kills, 10 digs and was 6-6 serving, Gabby Williams had two kills, three aces, 35 assists, 13 digs and was 22-22 serving and Selena Weaver had six kills, four blocks and two digs.
Also for the Tigers, Ally Gaver had one ace, five digs and was 7-7 serving, Jaelen Meeker recorded 10 digs and was 11-11 serving, Kaleigh Wilcox had two aces, 15 digs and was 12-13 serving and Chiarra Prodda had two kills, 11 digs and was 9-10 serving.
For the Lakers, Kaylee Shelton had five kills, four digs, was 24-26 hitting and 12-13 serving, Bethany Golliday had two aces, 16 digs, was 23-25 passing and 11-11 serving, Callie Notestine had four aces, 11 assists, 10 digs and was 14-14 serving, Allix Cotterman had 17 digs and was 17-19 passing and Kayli Barlow added 15 digs.
Chiefs fall to Red Devils
Bellefontaine’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end at the hands of state-ranked Tippecanoe on Wednesday in a Division II sectional tournament opener at Tecumseh High School.
The top-seeded Red Devils, who are ranked ninth in the state, dropped the 10th-seeded Chieftains in three sets. Bellefontaine pushed Tippecanoe in the first set, but fell 26-24. The Red Devils took over the next two sets 25-3, 25-14 to secure the win.
Bellefontaine finishes its season at 7-16.
Tippecanoe (22-1) faces 12th-seeded Trotwood-Madison on Saturday in a sectional semifinal at Tecumseh High School.
