Alex Burton spearheaded West Liberty-Salem’s volleyball team this fall on her way to recording 1,000 kills for her career. Coaches took notice as she was voted the Ohio Heritage Conference North Division player of the year on the recently released all-league team.
State-ranked Northeastern won the OHC North Division championship with a perfect 16-0 record. WL-Salem finished second with a 13-3 mark. Triad came in fifth with a 1-13 record.
Earning OHC North Division first team were WL-Salem’s Burton and Gabby Williams, while a second-team spot went to Michele Smith.
Several area players received honorable mention. That included WL-Salem’s Selena Weaver, Jaelen Meeker and Ally Gaver and Triad’s Jordan Unger, Kendell Hughes and Kelsey Cole.
Making up the rest of the North Division first team were Northeastern’s Mackenzie Grimm and Madison Grimm, Fairbanks’ Kaidie Carstensen and Lizzie Nicol and Mechanicsburg’s Audrey Ayars.
Filling out the honorable mention list were Northeastern’s Sam Wiseman, Liz Wiseman and Emma Wiseman, Mechanicsburg’s Mallory Blakeman and Abby Lawhorn and Fairbanks’ Jayda Rausch and Cassie Lamb.
Madison Plains and Greenview tied for the OHC South Division championship with 10-6 records. The Eagles had the player of the year in Cidny Long.
Earning South Division first-team honors were Greenon’s Makenna Young and Katie Pry, Madison Plains’ Long and Hope Featherolf, Greeneview’s Madyson Brittingham, Southeastern’s Trinity Cline and Cedarville’s Abbigal Sheridan.
Landing spots on the second team were Southeastern’s Laney Mills and Taylor Lewis, Greeneview’s Sarah Trisel and Amanda Mickle, Catholic Central’s Sara Alexander and Madison Plains’ Rylee Davis.
Making the honorable mention list were Greeneview’s Kimberly Robinette and Elizabeth Reichley, Catholic Central’s Trish McConell and Logan Fitzsimmons, Cedarville’s Luisa Christian and Eva Sheridan, Southeastern’s Peyton Isaac and Libby Allen, Madison Plains’ Fiona Stuart and Gracie Farmer and Greenon’s Kai Bull.
