Playing in pink shirts emblazoned with the words “Team Katie” to honor their head coach’s battle with cancer, Bellefontaine’s softball team earned a gritty 6-5 win over visiting London in a Central Buckeye Conference softball game Monday.

“I was deeply moved by tonight’s support by the Chieftain community of players, coaches and parents in support of my health issues,” said BHS head coach Katie Buffkin.

“I would like to give a special thank you to coaches Michelle Zedeker and Jeff Morrison and the many parents for coordinating tonight’s events.”

In a fitting finish, Bellefontaine scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the walk-off victory. Addison Wical’s game winning hit drove in Rianna Fullerton.

Wical went 3-4 with a triple on the day to spark the Chieftain offense. Fullerton went 2-4, Kassi Prine had a double and Aubrey Hudson went 2-3 with a double and a home run.
Bellefontaine is back in action today at Indian Lake in a makeup game from Friday.
