Suspected methamphetamine and related drug paraphernalia were recovered shortly after 9 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12, by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department following an investigation into suspected drug activity.

Nathaniel Clem, 44, of Bellefontaine, was arrested on charges including violating his parole and possession of methamphetamine and drug abuse instruments as a result of the investigation.

Officers were patrolling the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel, 1117 N. Main St., when they observed the defendant inside the vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot with the engine turned off.

Contact was made with Clem and officers observed two hypodermic needles in plain view on the passenger seat of the vehicle. The defendant initially claimed to be a diabetic but eventually acknowledged the needles were used to inject methamphetamine.

A search of the vehicle revealed a baggie of methamphetamine, a Suboxone strip and another needle.

Clem was charged with a felony count of possession of a Schedule III drug, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug abuse instruments and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
