A suspect was apprehended at gunpoint shortly before 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responding to a report of a robbery at a gas station.

Police were dispatched to the Marathon gas station, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., on a report of a theft that occurred and a suspect fleeing the area.

The suspect, later identified as Alexander Chambers-Caetano, 30, of Bellefontaine, was observed by two witnesses stealing a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter and fleeing the store. A clerk and the witnesses gave chase in the parking lot and the suspect reportedly threatened violence and made comments about having a weapon.

Officers were told Chambers-Caetano came into the store wearing a Powers Rangers mask to conceal his face, stole the cigarettes and fled.

One of the witnesses to the incident took a photo of the fleeing suspect and responding officers were provided that picture to help identIfy him.

A short time later, Chambers-Caetano was seen walking in the 100 block of west Sandusky Avenue and police ordered him onto the ground. He reportedly was initially combative with officers as they attempted to handcuff him.

A search of the suspect’s belongings turned up a single 9mm bullet, but no firearm was identified. Two suspected crack pipes also were recovered.

Chambers-Caetano was charged with theft, robbery and resisting arrest and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
