Benjamin Logan Superintendent John Scheu expressed his gratitude to outgoing Treasurer Jennifer Sudhoff at her last board of education meeting Monday, June 24. 

Following her four-year tenure, Sudhoff’s last day in the district is July 5. 

“We’re sad to see Jennifer leaving because she’s put things in place that gave the district better financial footing,” Scheu said at a previous meeting last month. 

New treasurer Leah Baker also was welcomed to the district. She lives in Prospect, Ohio, and will begin her role as treasurer on July 8, as previously detailed in the Examiner. Her term will go until July 31, 2026.

Baker’s extensive experience includes nine years in the finance department at Worthington City Schools. 

In other reports, Community Health and Wellness Partners President/CEO Tara Bair detailed the ongoing health and wellness initiatives in the district and their impact on the school community.

In financial matters, members approved the tentative collective bargaining agreement summaries with the Benjamin Logan Education Association (BLEA) for both teaching and classified staff, effective July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027.

The board also approved district wide salary schedules for certified, classified, and administrative staff for fiscal years for fiscal years 2025 through 2027. 

Members also approved overnight trips for students, parents, and chaperones, including the State BPA Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., and the State and National BPA Leadership Conferences in Columbus and Orlando, Fla,, respectively.

In other action, the board approved, extended or accepted: 

• the resignations of Lindsey Balla (HS Teacher), Amy Evans (MS Intervention Specialist), Heidi Fuller (ES Guidance Counselor), and Blaine Walter (MS Custodian); 

• new staff members for the 2024-2025 school year, including Natasha Anderson (MS ELA Teacher), Lindsay Coder (ES Guidance Counselor), Lisa Daniels (MS Intervention Specialist), and Robert Wolf (MS Intervention Specialist); 

• two-year limited contracts for Gary Shields and Linda Thompson; 

• a $200 stipend for teachers participating in the Intervention Specialist PD at $100 per day (total of $200 for 2 days): Morganne Ackley

Jaclyn Atherton, Aryn Forsythe, Jill Hughes, Stephenie Jordan, Rob Painter, Jaclyn Powers, Abbey Shields

• supplemental contracts for extended service days for various positions, including guidance counselors, librarians, and teachers.

• overnight trip stipends for teachers Kara Maurer, Melody Wishin, Holly Barr, and Shannon Peterson for the 6th Grade Camp Willson trip (two nights);

• a $1,000 stipend for teachers Laura Bilbrey and Robert Wolf upon completing the Orton Gillingham training, funded by ESSER III for Learning Loss.

• a $500 Ohio Farm Bureau Grant and a $4,000 Milroy Foundation Grant;

• bank reconciliations and financial reports, and sanctioned fund transfers, including $958.65 to cover negative lunch balances and $75,000 for track and turf maintenance.

• consulting services agreement with McCuen’s Accounting Services to provide mentorship;

• a $50 donation from the Better Business Bureau Foundation for the Laws of Life Writing Competition and a $37,847.43 donation from the BL Music Boosters for student activities during the 23-24 school year;
