SHELBY COUNTY — A three-vehicle crash involving commercial tractor-trailers on Interstate 75 claimed the life of a Strongsville man Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Shelby County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Iurie Chetrusca, 43, was killed when his 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer caught fire after a collision just south of the Botkins Road exit in Dinsmore Township.

The crash occurred at 3:08 p.m. when a 2020 Freightliner, driven by Jeffrey Sherrick, 65, of Lima, struck the rear of a 2015 International tractor-trailer, driven by Jaquan Simon, 27, of Huber Heights, who was traveling northbound.

The Volvo operated by Chetrusca then collided with the Freightliner, igniting a fire that engulfed both his truck and the Freightliner.

Simon was uninjured, while Sherrick was transported to Saint Rita’s Medical Center with minor injuries. Chetrusca was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. First responders from the Botkins Police and Fire Departments, Anna Fire Department, Jackson Center Fire Department, and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
