A Bellefontaine woman was arrested Saturday, March 22, after reportedly stabbing her husband during a domestic dispute.
Audrey Gibson, 29, was taken into custody at her home in the 600 block of West Columbus Avenue and charged with felonious assault and domestic violence. Officers noted that Gibson has a prior domestic violence conviction.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were on the phone shortly before 3 p.m. with a witness regarding a separate incident when that witness reported an ambulance was needed at the residence. He told police that the victim was bleeding on the kitchen floor.
Officers arrived and found the victim, later identified as Gibson’s husband, sitting on a mobility scooter covered in blood. The victim had a large open stab wound on his right buttock. He told police that Gibson had stabbed him.
The victim was able to back his scooter out of the house, while the witness assisted officers by removing other aggressive dogs from the home, including a therapy dog belonging to Gibson.
Bellefontaine EMS transported the victim to Mary Rutan Hospital. He was later transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for further treatment.
After being informed that Gibson was upstairs, officers ordered her to come outside. Gibson eventually complied, walking to the door with her hands raised. As she was being handcuffed, she repeatedly said, “I didn’t mean to. I didn’t want him to hurt Zeus,” according to a police report.
As officers were detaining Gibson, two dogs inside the house began attacking another dog. Officers closed the door to separate the animals.
Officers secured the scene with crime tape and waited for detectives to arrive. Goings assisted in securing several dogs in different rooms of the house to preserve the scene. A large pile of blood was discovered on the kitchen floor, with a trail of blood leading into the living room.
Gibson was charged with second-degree felony felonious assault, as well as domestic violence and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
