Sports Roundup: Raiders busy across courts and mats

Benjamin Logan student-athletes were active across several sports and levels over the past few days, with action spanning girls and boys basketball at the varsity and middle school levels, along with a meaningful moment for Raider wrestling.

Girls Basketball — Lady Raiders at North Union

The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders traveled to North Union on Saturday evening, Jan. 24, for Central Buckeye Conference action.

In the junior varsity game, the Lady Raiders fell 45–25. Jozie Taylor led Benjamin Logan with eight points, followed by Brielle Kline with six and Addison Kuhn with four. Madison Shields scored three, while Miley Buettner and Bonnie Brunson added two points each. The JV Lady Raiders now stand at 11–5 and are scheduled to return to action Saturday at home against Bethel, with tipoff set for noon.

The varsity Lady Raiders came up short in a 60–20 loss. Elliott Butter paced the Raiders with five points, while Paislee Rodenberger and Adilynne Gregg scored four apiece. Molly Siefring added three points, with Kylie Harner and Jozie Taylor each contributing two. The varsity Lady Raiders move to 7–10 and will host Springfield Shawnee on Saturday afternoon following the JV contest.

Saturday evening, Jan.24, was North Union’s Senior Night. Benjamin Logan seniors Aubrey Harris, Kaylee Oglesbee, Miley Buettner, Addison Kuhn, Rylan Norviel, and Adilynne Gregg were recognized with flowers prior to the game. Tanna Jacobs was not pictured.

Wrestling — Grant Invitational renamed

Saturday’s Raider Wrestling Invitational featured a special ceremony before the finals, as the tournament was officially renamed “The Grant Invitational.”

The honor recognizes longtime coach Tony Grant, along with his wife Susie Grant and brother Robyn Grant, for their lasting impact on Raider wrestling and the broader Benjamin Logan community. Alumni wrestlers surrounded the mat during the ceremony, reflecting on a legacy built on character, perseverance, and accountability that extends far beyond competition.

Middle School Boys Basketball

Raiders eight-grade basketball team, above and seventh grade squad, below.

The Benjamin Logan seventh-grade boys earned a 34–30 win over Kenton Ridge on Wednesday evening, Jan. 28. Archer Stratton posted a standout performance with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Gunner Bergman added eight points and nine rebounds, while Keiton Shields scored seven points. Mason Mikes chipped in six points, and Jeremiah Schneider added three.

The eighth-grade boys dropped a 58–31 decision to Kenton Ridge. Luke Long led the Raiders with 11 points, while Stone Angles recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Nevada Coleman finished with seven points, three rebounds, and three steals. The Raiders are scheduled to host Bellefontaine on Thursday.

Boys Basketball — Varsity, JV, and JVB

The Benjamin Logan varsity boys traveled to Jonathan Alder on Wednesday and fell 70–34. Maddox Vermillion led the Raiders with eight points and five rebounds. Cayden Brown scored six points with two assists, while Carter Fay and Roman Maxwell each added six points. Christian Rogan finished with four points, and Adam Tinsman contributed two points and four rebounds.

The junior varsity Raiders lost 45–31, with Owen Stratton scoring eight points. Micah Gregg, Adam Tinsman, and Caden Powell each added six.

The junior varsity B team also came up short in a 46–32 loss. Micah Gregg led the way with eight points, while Gabe Predmore added six.

Middle School Girls Basketball

The Benjamin Logan middle school Lady Raiders faced Kenton Ridge on Wednesday night.

In the eighth-grade game, the Lady Raiders rolled to a 48–12 victory. Addy Leonard delivered a dominant performance with 27 points, 10 steals, four assists, and four rebounds. Maci Stafford added 12 points and six steals. Layla Schneider finished with five points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Alania Hamilton and Mica Coaty scored two points each.

The seventh-grade Lady Raiders fell 24–3. Peyton Courtney scored two points, while Lexi Fry added one point along with two rebounds and two steals. Aubri Gehle and Tempe Brunson each contributed two rebounds.
