Benjamin Logan and Shawnee battled each other and the heat on Wednesday in Central Buckeye Conference girls soccer action.
The contest pitted the top two teams in the Mad River division, and ended in a scoreless tie.
Ben Logan is now 4-0-1 in the CBC and 8-1-1 overall. Shawnee has the same league record and is 7-1-1 in all games.
The first half was a back and forth affair, while Shawnee was more dominant in the second 40 minutes.
But Lady Raiders keeper Rissa Bates and the defense kept the Braves off the board.
Coach Kyle Trees said, “This was some championship soccer. Both teams played great. It was a great showing.”
He added that “This is what we are looking to do as a program. This kind of success is new to our program, and they are handling it very well.”
In the first half, Shawnee had a kick that was caught by Bates, followed by pressure around the net.
With 27 minute to go, Ella Chamberlin had a free kick, but it was snared by the Braves keeper.
Chamberlin had a drive to the net with 21 minutes to go. Her quick shot from close range was blocked by Shawnee’s Addison Mattern. She then dove on the ball to prevent another chance.
After a water break at the midpoint of the half, Bates saved a shot from the right side with about 15 minutes to go.
Ben Logan made a few charges but couldn’t get anything too close.
Following the intermission, Shawnee had a corner kick in the first few minutes, but it did not lead to a shot on net.
A good chance for Ben Logan came about five minutes in as Brooklyn Smedley fired a shot from about nine yards away. It was turned aside by the keeper.
Another Raiders charge came with about 10 minutes elapsed, and a similar result.
Near the midpoint, Chamberlin had another direct kick, with it landing in the keeper’s arms.
The final 10 minutes saw Shawnee spend nearly all of that time on the attack, but they were not able to break through for a score.
Daylin Varner made a charge in the final couple of minutes.
Ben Logan plays at Indian Lake on Monday, following the boys game. Start time will be about 7:30 p.m.
