Multiple arrests for suspected impaired driving were recorded during a Saturday, Aug. 24, sobriety checkpoint and related patrol efforts conducted in the area of State Route 235 near State Route 366 in Washington Township.

A total of 233 vehicles were checked between 7 and 10 p.m. by troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Township and Russells Point police departments and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

During the checkpoint, two vehicles were diverted for suspicion of impaired driving, resulting in one arrest for impaired driving. In addition to the checkpoint, officers conducted saturation patrols in the surrounding area, initiating over 30 traffic stops. Two of these stops also resulted in arrests for impaired driving.

The sobriety checkpoint was funded by federal grant money and is part of a broader effort to deter and intercept impaired drivers. These checkpoints also serve to educate motorists on the dangers of impaired driving.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds everyone that if you plan to drink, make sure to designate a driver or arrange for alternative transportation before consuming alcohol.
