Sewing talents hit the fair runway

4-H members of all ages, from elementary school students to recent high school graduates, showcased their sewing talents and creativity on the runway last week at the 4-H Activities Building at the Logan County Fair for the 2023 Fashion Revue.

A number of the participants were awarded Sew Well Done and first-place ribbons for their handiwork, and several individuals received the top overall awards for the night.

Kaitlyn Adams won the Best Overall Total Look award from the judges, which takes into account the seven clues of fashion. Her Dress-Up Outfit-Formalwear is a dusty blue, floor-length evening gown featuring a lace-up back and embellished belt, perfectly suited for her next school dance or special event.

Carly Strayer received the Best Constructed Garment Award for her Clothes for High School and College three-piece entry, featuring a professional-quality plaid wool skirt, top and coordinating navy blue jacket. Sew Well Done award winners are eligible for this award.

Samuel Knight won the Wool Award and $50 from the Logan County Sheep Association in his 11th and final year in the Fashion Revue. The Willing Workers 4H Club member and 2023 Riverside High School graduate designed a full-length tailored wool coat for the Outerwear for Anywhere category, a little toasty for the July weather, but a classic piece that will be a staple in his winter wardrobe for years to come.

Three Best Overall Awards were presented for each of the skill levels, from Beginner to Advanced. The Best Overall Beginner was awarded to Lila Adams for her mauve floral entry in Terrific Tops; Best Overall Intermediate Award to Valerie Knight for her personalized track suit in Ready, Set Sew Active; and Best Advanced Award to Samuel Knight for his outerwear entry.
