Carmen Scott was recognized Saturday morning by the Simon Kenton Pathfinders group and others with a special dedication at the Carter Avenue Trailhead of the Simon Kenton Trail in Bellefontaine.
More than 100 people gathered at what Carmen thought was an event to support and promote the trail but was actually a surprise dedication of the trailhead and a future shelter house at the Carter Avenue location which will be named in his honor.
Carmen has been instrumental in the development of the northern extension of the trail in Logan County and has given countless hours to work for trail upkeep in addition to many other community service projects over the years.
Bellefontaine Mayor Dave Crissman and Kris Myers, superintendent of the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District shared their appreciation of Carmen’s efforts.
At the conclusion of the presentation, several present took advantage of the beautiful morning to ride, run or walk on the trail.
Community members have contributed more than $15,000 toward the shelter house project.
Contributions for the shelter project are still being accepted in Carmen’s honor at Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, 100 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine.
