Ronal “RL” Murphy, 88, of West Liberty, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 14, 202,4 in his home.
He was born December 7, 1935 in Belle Center, Ohio, the son of Earnest and Imogene (Collins) Murphy.
RL was a graduate of Belle Center High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University and received his masters degree from The Ohio State University. He taught school for many years in the West Liberty-Salem School district before becoming the principal. He was very involved with the coaching and bussing of students as well as teaching drivers education.
RL concluded his working career with the Ohio State Patrol, teaching CDL Instructors and was the first person in Ohio to receive a CDL license; he also worked for Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home with his wife Ruth as greeter for visitations and funeral services.
RL was known for his amazing bass singing voice and sang with a group known as the “Profs” which he enjoyed very much, he was a member of the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church and had a strong faith in God. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Taylor) Murphy; daughters Lynn (Ed) Armentrout, Jill (Bill) Klinger, son Shaun (Robin) Murphy; grandchildren, JR (Alyssa) Cramer, Randy Cramer, Justus Murphy, Autumn (Gabe) Swartz, Lane (Chelsi) Stratton, Nate (Kayla) Stratton and Kristine Stratton; twelve great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Universal Home Health & Hospice.
