Riverside boys jolt Raiders 53-31

Riverside started fast and didn’t let its foot off the gas pedal Tuesday as the Pirates cruised past visiting Benjamin Logan 53-31 in a non-league boys basketball game.

The Pirates are now 2-1 on the season, while the Raiders fall to 0-2.

Riverside raced out to a 19-7 lead after the opening quarter. The Pirates pushed their lead to 27-13 at halftime.

It was more of the same in the second half. Riverside outscored the Raiders 11-4 in the third quarter to lead 38-17.

Jaxon Woods led the Pirates with 11 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists. Woods was joined in double figures by Gavin Orsborne with 10 points. Ayden Clary added seven points and eight rebounds and Myles Platfoot chipped in five points and four assists.

E.J. Martin and Camden Spriggs each scored 10 points to lead the Raiders.

In the junior varsity game, Riverside won 63- 39. Damien Smith led the Pirates with 27 points and Hayden Sanford had 12 points. Clayton Jenkins led the Raiders with 25 points.

Both teams are back in action Friday. The Pirates host Bethel and the Raiders are at home against North Union.
