The Riverside baseball team lost 4-2 to Waynesfield-Goshen at home Friday night to begin their season.
Cooper Crouch and Hayden McCully each doubled, with the Pirates getting six hits in all.
Landon Purtee started and went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Cam Shoe threw three innings, with one hit and six strikeouts.
Waynesfield-Goshen’s Jace Kaufman threw a complete game, with 12 strikeouts.
Each team scored twice in the first inning.
For Riverside, Brody Orsborne and Purtee led off with singles. Orsborne would score due to catcher’s interference and Purtee came home on a wild pitch.
It stayed tied until the third. Waynesfield-Goshen got two singles and a double and kept the lead from that point forward.
Riverside returns to action today with a doubleheader at Ridgemont. The first game begins at 11 a.m.
