Richard “Rick” Keith Reames, aged 70, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
Born on September 26, 1954, Rick was a man of unwavering kindness, a deep love for learning, and a heart devoted to his family and community.
Rick graduated from Ben Logan High School in 1973 before answering the call to serve his country. From 1974 to 1978, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, where he drove tanks and forged bonds of camaraderie that lasted a lifetime.
After his military service, Rick attended the Auto Desile Mechanic’s College. After several jobs, Rick ultimately pursued a career in nursing, embodying his passion for helping others and leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
Rick was the beloved son of Carl and Coral Reames, who preceded him in death. He was cherished by his uncles, Roger and Phil Bullock, and was a beloved brother to Harland, Charlie, Mike, Chris, and Doug Reames.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Melinda Reames, and their children: Keenan; Ethan and his wife Chelsea; Valerie and her husband Glen; and Caitlyn and her wife Onna. Rick was the proud grandfather of Mariah, Deja, Josh, Andrew, Vision, George, Zion, Lavon, Reign, Freedom, and Rowen, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Rick was a man of many passions. Known for his ever-present Hawaiian shirts, he brought joy and warmth wherever he went. He was an avid reader, a history enthusiast, and a dedicated movie buff who loved exploring new places through his travels. Above all, Rick will be remembered for his selfless spirit, his love of learning, and the unconditional love he gave to his family and friends.
Rick’s life was a testament to service, kindness, and the pursuit of knowledge. Though his journey ended too soon, the legacy he leaves behind is one of love, generosity, and an enduring zest for life.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be December 22 at Bella Vino in Bellefontaine from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a family meal afterwards. In honor of Rick feel free to wear a Hawaiian shirt and/or a kilt to the celebration.
