Richard Earl “Buddy” McClain, 88, of West Liberty, passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023, in Springfield Regional Mercy Health Medical Center.
He was born in Champaign County, Ohio on January 26, 1935, the son of the late Earl and Florence (Wysong) McClain. He is also preceded in death by two sisters: Julia Bolen and Dorothy Miller, and two sisters-in-law, Jean Walborn and Charlotte Williamson.
On July 8, 1956, he married Barbara Retta Sprague McClain, and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons; Christopher McClain and Theodore (Stephanie) McClain, two daughters; Susan Sloan and Penelope Jill (Wayne) Woodrum, nine grandchildren: Kelsey Brown, Theodore Richard McClain, Bo Garrett McClain, Brittney Jill (Drew) Fehring, Rebecca Elizabeth (Adam) Ruber, Amanda Jane Sloan, Adam Richard Sloan, Samuel Logan Pike, Casey McClain Pike, nine great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law; Paula Ann (David) Pullins and Jane Ford and numerous nieces and nephews.
Buddy worked as a farmer all of his life, farming the McClain family farm. He enjoyed going to tractor and steam shows and antique car shows. He belonged to the Farm Bureau and had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to joke around.
Elder David Hemsley will officiate a funeral service on Monday, December 18, at 10 a.m. in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Rd., West Liberty, Ohio 43357.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
