Richard David Ebner, 93, of Huntsville, OH, passed away early Monday morning, December 30, 2024, at Campbell Place, Bellefontaine, OH.
Richard was born on June 17, 1931, in Springfield, OH, a son of the late Martin and Bertha (Frand) Ebner. He is preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey D. Ebner, and a brother, Alan Ebner.
Richard married Jenny Lewis Ebner on May 22, 1976, in Troy, OH, and she survives along with five children, Jill (Casey) Ebner Senecal of Huntington Beach, CA, Todd Lewis Ebner of Huntsville, Leilani J. Feliciano of Naples, FL, Randall P. (Kelley) Ebner of North Carolina, and Fabiani Klein of Brazil, nine grandchildren, Nathan Ebner, Christopher Ebner, Nicholas (Jessica) Ebner, Thomas Ebner, Nikohl (Bryon) Hamilton, Becca Houser, Randall J. (Grace) Ebner, Mathis Klein, and Martina Klein, four great grandchildren, Carson Hamilton, Ethan Hamilton, Oliver Ebner, and Maven Ebner, a daughter-in-law, Amy Ebner of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was a 1949 graduate of Springfield High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1953 from The Ohio State University. After graduating from Ohio State, Richard began operating his family business, The Ebner Sons Company, which was founded in 1883 by his grandfather.
He was a life member of the Temple Sholom in Springfield. He was a member of the fund-raising committee for the new Springfield YMCA building.
Richard was an extremely active individual who excelled at playing squash, tennis, running, carried a 5 handicap in golf, coached volleyball at the YMCA, and officiated high school and college football, basketball, and wrestling. He was a master bridge player.
Richard loved sailing and was master host of the Pro-Am Regatta at Bitter End Yacht Club BVI for many years, and taught beginning sailing occasionally at the yacht club. Richard could fix anything with a roll of duct tape from common household items to keeping boats and jet skis afloat. He was the consummate jokester, loved shenanigans, and was king of the saying, “It’s Good Enough”.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. with a celebration fitting of honoring Richard’s life to follow from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, at the Ebner Lake House, Minnewauken Island on Indian Lake. For further details please contact a member of Richard’s family.
