Richard D. “Dick” Campbell, age 86, of Bellefontaine and Leesburg, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at his home in Bellefontaine surrounded by his loving family.
On July 11, 1937, Dick was born in Zanesfield, Ohio, one of four children of the late Wilbur Milton and Reva Rose (Hill) Campbell. He grew up on the family farm, helping his father as soon as he was able. He graduated from Perry Zane High School in the class of 1955.
In 1958, Dick was drafted to serve in the US Army, serving two years active duty and four more in the reserves.
Upon his honorable discharge, Dick returned home to Zanesfield to do what he loved most, farming. He enjoyed milking cows and making hay alongside his father until he passed. Next, he went into banking at the West Mansfield Bank and the Logan County Bank. He then went to work for Honda, retiring after 21 years, and serving on the Honda Credit Union Board for many years.
In 1970, Dick was set up on a date with Alice Burke by her sister, Colleen, and from there the rest is history. They were married on July 22, 1971, and shared 52 years of marriage. Together they moved from Marysville to Bellefontaine in 2012. They also enjoyed wintering in Leesburg, Florida, for the last 10 plus years.
For 20 years, one of Dick’s favorite pastimes was boating on Lake Erie, and catching many walleye fish over those years. He loved to play cards, especially euchre, and marbles with his friends in Ohio and Florida. He also enjoyed rooting on his beloved Cleveland Indians and Browns, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
He will be missed by his wife, Alice Campbell of Bellefontaine; two children: Ken (Terri) Campbell of Englewood, FL, and Pam (Dan) Cramer of Marysville; three grandchildren: Josh Campbell, and Caleb and Emily Cramer, all three of Marysville; two step-grandchildren: Austin Gray of Englewood, FL, and Lucinda Gray of Columbus; a sister, Roselyn Horney; a brother, Donald (Pat) Campbell of Cincinnati; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Campbell; brother, Wilbur L. Campbell; and a brother-in-law, Gene Horney.
His family will greet friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, September 29, at Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. Services honoring his life will follow there at 4 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Downing officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Middleburg Cemetery.
