Richard A. “Dick” Jenkins, 86, of Indian Lake, OH passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, March 4, 2023, at his home.
Richard was born on March 7, 1936, in Bellefontaine, OH, a son of the late Thurman and Cleola Reed Jenkins. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Buddy (Shirley) Jenkins and sister and brother-in-law, Beverly (Bill) Shelton.
Dick married Shirley Sirk on October 11, 1957, in Rockville, MD, and she survives along with their children, Anthony Scott Jenkins of Bellefontaine, Tamara Jenkins of Marysville, OH, and Stephanie (Tim) Rutherford of Chillicothe, OH, two grandchildren, Kara (Dennis Love) Mitchell and Jared Mitchell, a brother, Bruce (Connie) Jenkins of Virginia Beach , VA, and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was a 1954 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He later went to work for The State Department- Voice of America, where he served 3 tours in Kenya, a tour in Taiwan, and a tour in Hong Kong. He was a life member of Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post 39 in Lakeview, OH. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, throwing darts and playing cards. Dick had a vibrant personality that lit up the room during parties and gatherings. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, OH.
