Reckless motorists charged with OV

BellefontainePolice Patch-200Seirra Newcomb, 30, of Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to control, failure to reinstate and driving under suspension following an early Sunday morning interaction with officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Police were notified around 2 a.m., Jan. 8, of a reckless motorist honking excessively and causing property damage in the area of west Columbus Avenue and Everett Street.

Witnesses reported a dark-colored vehicle striking a stop sign and leaving the scene. Additionally, the vehicle reportedly struck a curb in the 600 block of west Chillicothe Avenue so hard that a plastic wheel well cover was dislodged from the vehicle. Other broken pieces of the vehicle’s front bumper were also located.

Officers located the vehicle on Eaton Street, just south of west Columbus Avenue and made contact with the driver. Several signs of intoxication were immediately observed, including a strong odor of alcohol coming from the suspect, officers report.

A series of field sobriety tests were attempted, but were not successful. She declined to provide a breath sample. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the suspect was released to a sober driver.

• Peter Aneo, 41, of Bellefontaine, was charged with OVI and multiple marked lanes violations following a traffic stop that occurred shortly before 1 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, on West Street in the area of west Sandusky Avenue.

Officers on patrol reportedly observed the suspect fail to stop at a red light at Sandusky Avenue and Main Street. Patrolling officers observed several other marked lanes violations before initiating a traffic stop and making contact with Aneo.

Field sobriety tests were unsuccessful, and the suspect reportedly became agitated and swore at officers. He declined to provide a breath sample, was advised of his court date and released.
