Raymond G. Hentges, 94, of Lakeview, OH passed away peacefully, Friday night, November 22, 2024, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, OH.

Raymond was born on March 19, 1930, in Weston, OH, a son of the late Jacob and Martha Long Hentges. He married Myrna Robinson on September 28, 1957, and she preceded him in death on September 19, 1999. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Marie Echelbarger and Mary Lou Ferguson.

On June 23, 2001, Ray married Evelyn L. Meditz at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Joliet, IL and she survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Julie (John) O’Driscoll of Buford, GA, and Margaret Odle of Sidney, OH, three grandchildren, Olivia O’Driscoll, Sean O’Driscoll, and Camille (Jared) Magoteaux, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ray was a 1948 graduate of Liberty High School in Custar, OH, and 1953 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Studies. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War earning the rank of First Lieutenant.

Ray was a farmer and spent his working career as a farm appraiser with Equitable. He was an active member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point. He was also a member of Doyle R. Miller Amvet Post #39, Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, OSU Alumni, and Father Anthony Wolf Knights of Columbus Council #4378.

Ray loved traveling across the continental United States and to several places around the world. He and Evelyn spent several years wintering in Florida. He was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, being outdoors, watching his corn grow, visiting with friends and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Ray was a straight-shooter and one would always know how they stood with him.

Father Shawn Landenwitch will begin A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, at St. Mary of the Woods Church, 464 Madison Ave, Russells Point, OH with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery with military rites performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Ray’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
