Chieftain girls take second in KT

They both received strong challenges, but Benjamin Logan’s track and field teams were both able to keep their long Central Buckeye Conference Mad River championship streaks alive Friday after the final day of the league meet at Bellefontaine High School.

The Ben Logan boys fended off North Union to stretch their Mad River winning streak to 13 straight.

The BL boys tallied 144 points, with North Union next with 130 points. Indian Lake was third (79), Northwestern was fourth (69), Urbana took fifth (61) and Graham was sixth (40).

Ben Logan’s girls team battled past a strong Indian Lake team as the Raiders claimed their eighth straight division crown.

The Lady Raiders recorded 164 points, to finish nine ahead of the second-place Lakers. Northwestern was third (69), Graham took fourth (55), Urbana finished fifth (41) and North Union was sixth (39).

Bellefontaine’s girls team turned in a valiant effort in the Kenton Trail division meet.

The Chiefs finished second (143 points) behind Jonathan Alder (152.5). Kenton Ridge was third (114.5), London was fourth (63), Tecumseh finished fifth (29) and Springfield Shawnee was sixth (21).

Bellefontaine’s boys team had 91 points to finish third behind Alder (144) and London (104). Shawnee was fourth (88), Tecumseh fifth (74) and Kenton Ridge sixth (22).

Depth fuels Raiders’ first-place finishes

It was definitely a team effort for Ben Logan’s squads as they showed off their impressive depth and balance.

For the girls team on Friday, junior Isabel Henderson had another big day by winning the 100 (13.07) and the winning the long jump (16-7). She also took second in the 200 (26.40).

The Lady Raiders also received wins from Scarlett Elliott in the pole vault (9-0), the 400 relay team of Kate Gulick, Mya Burrey, Macy Matthews and Hannah White (52.35), Gulick in the 300 hurdles (48.17) and Alanna Gibson in the discus (115-8).

Finishing with runner-up performances were Gulick in the 100 hurdles (16.44), Mylee Boysel in the 800 (2:31.27) and the 1,600 relay team of Ella Chamberlain, Gulick, Mylee Boysel and Burrey (4:24.33).

Supporting the Raiders with third-place medals were White in the 100 hurdles (17.32) and 300 hurdles (51.59), Burrey in the long jump (15-11.25), Georgia Bates in the 800 (2:35.31) and 1,600 (5:48.81), Lauren Hemmelgarn in the discus (100-1) and the 800 relay team of Chamberlain, Burrey, Matthews and White (1:53.54).

Also for the Lady Raiders on Friday, Alexis Sutherly finished fifth in the pole vault (7-6) and Estella Wenger was sixth in the 1,600 (5:55.76).

Ben Logan’s boys team was led on the second day of the league meet by two first-place finishes.

Those came from Yale Scheiderer in the 110 hurdles (16.10) and the 400 relay team of Ben Chamberlain, Trevor Berry, Hunter Lattimer and Sam Whitten (44.67).

Taking second for BL were Chamberlain in the 400 (53.37), Scheiderer in the 300 hurdles (41.47), Tyler Shoopman in the 800 (2:06.21), the 1,600 relay team of Chamberlain, Lattimer, Scheiderer and Dylan Vance and Berry in the shot put (46-5).

Contributing third-place finishes were Whitten in the 100 (11.43) and 200 (23.40), Carter Buck in the 300 hurdles (43.96) and Eric Hughes in the 800 (2:07.65).

Earning fourth-place efforts were Lattimer in the 400 (53.83) and Mason Jackson in the shot put (44-2).

Taking fifth for Ben Logan were Carter Buck in the 110 hurdles (17.11) and Hughes in the 1,600 (4:47.37), while sixth-place finishes went to Trevor Berry in the 100 (11.89) and Matthew Beikman in the high jump (5-6).

Adams headlines Lady Chiefs

Sophomore Kylie Adams added another big highlight to her sensational sophomore season for Bellefontaine on Friday.

Adams won four events, including the 300 hurdles in a conference meet record time of 46.01.

Adams also won the 100 hurdles (15.28) and long jump (17-11.25), while joining Ava Reeves, Callie Shumaker and Parker Penhorwood to win the 400 relay (50.38).

Reeves contributed a pair of individual wins by taking first in the 100 (12.91) and 200 (26.60).

Alexis Robinson added a win for BHS in the discus (115-2).

Contributing second-place finishes for the Lady Chiefs on Friday were Shumaker in the 100 hurdles (16.94) and 300 hurdles (47.91) and Kelsie Snapp in the discus (111-2).

Taking third for BHS were Kailyn Newman in the 800 (2:31.97) and Reeves in the long jump (16-10.25).

The Chiefs’ 1,600 relay team of Kaeleigh Flora, Harper Penhorwood, Miabelle Zayas-Colon and Claire McDaniel was fifth (4:38.22) and finishing sixth were the 800 relay team of Madison Christman, Taylor McCafferty, Claire McDaniel and Ryan Gatchel (2:02.07), Montanna Buck in the 3,200 (13:31.88) and Harper Penhorwood in the pole vault (8-0).

Sullivan Ashcraft powered Bellefontaine’s boys team with a win in the shot put (51-3.50).

Teammate Haiden Manns was second to Ashcraft in the shot put (48-3).

The Chiefs boys received third-place efforts from the 400 relay team of Ethan Orahood, Carter Kuhn, Jack Hutchins and Vansh Patel (45.97) and Tony Stewart in the 3,200 (10:09.03).

Finishing fourth were James Holt in the 110 hurdles (17.32), the 800 relay team (1:36.05) and the 1,600 relay team of Kaiden Foulk, Carter Snapp, Zavier May and Harper Scott (3:39.42).

Fifth-place finishes for BHS went to Hutchins in the 200 (24.27), Seth Taylor in the 3,200 (11:06.76) and Collin Deitsch in the high jump (5-4).

Ethan Orahood finished sixth in the 110 hurdles (18.14) for the Chiefs.

Rash, Richardson sparkle for Lakers

Although Indian Lake’s girls team came up short in its quest for a title Friday, the Lakers turned in a host of stellar performances.

Elayna Richardson and Reagan Rash each won two events to lead the Lady Lakers.

Richardson won the 400 (58.85) and the 200 (26.11), while Rash won the 1,600 (5:35.32) and 800 (2:26.61).

The Lady Lakers also saw wins from Reece Martin in the 100 hurdles (16.41), the 800 relay team of Ashlynn Biederman, Addison Beck, Ava Huffman and Cameron Finfrock (1:52.58) and the 1,600 relay team of Finfrock, Reece Martin, Rash and Richardson (4:13.33).

Taking second for Indian Lake were Richardson in the 100 (13.13), the 400 relay team of Beck, Huffman, Biederman and Jalan Martin (52.75) and Reece Martin in the 300 hurdles (48.89).

Ava Faler finished third in the pole vault (8-0) for the Lakers, while fourth-place finishes went to KaiLea Miller in the 1,600 (5:50.09), Beck in the 200 (28.09) and Maddie Miller in the discus (99-0).

Taking fifth for the Lady Lakers were Beck in the 100 (13.73), Reece Martin was in the long jump (14-10.50) and Cambria Tuttle in the 300 hurdles (56.25).

Adding sixth-place finishes for Indian Lake were Marah Bihn in the 100 hurdles (20.12), Huffman in the long jump (14-9.25) and Stephanie Altstaetter in the discus (94-11).

Indian Lake’s boys team was led by two first-place efforts.

Brant Parsell won the 300 hurdles (40.94) and the 1,600 relay team of Brant Parsell, Grant McPherson, Isaac Morrison and Everett Wischmeyer also won (3:39.57),
Brant Parsell was second in the 110 hurdles (16.54) and Gavin Henry was third in the 110 hurdles (16.92) for the Lakers.

The 400 relay team of Quest Clay, Drake Cosby, Caiden Gauntt and Vincent Wilson was fourth (46.97), while fifth-place efforts went to Henry in the 300 hurdles (44.90) and Gauntt in the high jump (5-6).

Isaac Morrison added a sixth-place finish in the 400 (55.71).
