Late Micah Gregg remembered with No. 26 jersey presentation to nephew
One of the most successful seasons in Raider athletics history was celebrated Friday night, Jan.16, as Benjamin Logan High School honored its 2000 boys baseball team during a home boys basketball game against Graham.
The 2000 Raiders were formally inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame after a season that included a District Championship, a Regional Runner-Up finish, a 25–7 overall record, and a No. 5 ranking in the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Division III final state poll.
“It was great to catch up on the lives of our former players, who have always felt like family,” said Mark Butler, assistant coach for the 2000 team. “I am proud of what we accomplished on the field, and even more proud of the young men they have become.”
As part of the ceremony, former players were presented with their original jerseys from the 2000 season, drawing smiles and emotional reactions from the close-knit group.
One of the most meaningful moments of the night centered on jersey No. 26. Former Raider Micah Gregg, a member of the 2000 team, passed away unexpectedly later that year, and the number was retired in his memory. During Friday’s induction, it was announced that No. 26 will be temporarily worn by Micah’s nephew and namesake — the son of Micah’s brother, Nathan Gregg — until his graduation. The number will then be retired once again.
“Wearing Uncle Micah’s jersey for all four years of my high school career will mean more to me than just putting on a uniform,” Micah said. “It feels like I will be carrying a part of him every time I step onto the field. It reminds me of where I come from, the standards he set, and the work ethic he lived by. On hard days, that jersey will push me to keep going, because it isn’t just about representing myself—it’s also about honoring him and my family.”

Tracy Gregg, president of the Benjamin Logan Athletic Boosters, said the evening reflected the lasting bond within the Raider community.
“The Benjamin Logan Athletic Boosters were proud to recognize this special group,” Gregg said. “Seeing former players return and reconnect showed the strength of the Benjamin Logan community.”
Benjamin Logan Schools also thanked the many alumni, families, and community members who attended to celebrate the legacy of a team whose impact continues to be felt.
