The Benjamin Logan Athletic Department officially renamed its annual wrestling tournament “The Grant Invitational” during a special ceremony held prior to the championship finals, honoring a family whose impact on the Raider wrestling program spans decades.
The tournament was formerly known as the Raider Invitational.
The new name recognizes Tony Grant, former head wrestling coach; Susie Grant; and Robyn Grant, assistant coach and Tony Grant’s brother, for their long-standing dedication to Benjamin Logan wrestling and the student-athletes they mentored. School officials cited the family’s leadership, commitment to excellence and lasting influence on the program’s culture both on and off the mat.
Despite several team withdrawals due to winter weather, 15 teams competed in this year’s Grant Invitational. Benjamin Logan finished third overall in the team standings.
Two Raiders earned championship titles and top honors. Owen Weaks, a junior, captured a tournament championship and was named Most Valuable Wrestler, while Ethan Carpenter, also a junior, claimed a championship and shared MVP honors.
Several other Benjamin Logan wrestlers turned in strong performances. Cooper Buck, a junior, pinned his way through the 138-pound bracket. Levi Achor, a junior, finished as runner-up. Sebass Stokes, a freshman, placed runner-up at 120 pounds. Emerson Carpenter, a freshman, finished fourth in his weight class.
Additional Raiders competing in the tournament included Cody Smith, senior (138); Maximus Troth, junior (150); Bode Clapsaddle, sophomore (150); Eli Carpenter, freshman (157); and Cole Somerlot, junior (165).
