Rachel Ann Smith, 90, of Urbana, passed away Friday morning, June 2, 2023, at Ayden Health Care of Belle Springs.

Rachel was born in Irwin, Ohio, on February 19, 1933, to the late Cecil and Mary (Hope) Nichols.  She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers Millard Nichols and Raymond Nichols, & 2 sisters Esther Sholler and Frances Phillips.

Rachel is survived by her children: David (Connie) Smith of Jackson, Ohio, Elizabeth (Dan) Heinlin of Arizona, Shirley (Gregg) Dutra of Texas, and Clifford (Ethel H.) Smith of West Liberty; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister Addie Gould of Wilmington, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, and her former husband Leo Smith of Urbana.

In her younger years, Rachel helped her husband drive lime to the farmers in Champaign and Clark counties.  She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.  Rachel was also fond of country music, dancing, and just being around people – she didn’t know a stranger. 

Larry Reed will officiate Rachel’s funeral service on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 12 noon at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty, where friends may call one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – Miami Valley Chapter, 6077 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45459.
