Several AES Ohio bucket trucks and repair vehicles converged about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, on Hunter Place in Bellefontaine after a utility pole reportedly caught fire and caused a possibly widespread power outage in the city.

The pole located about 100 yards from the Hunter Place entrance nearly burned in half is still standing.

Businesses and schools have closed as a result of the outage.

Ohio Hi-Point Career Center is dismissing students early today, and Calvary Christian had to cancel classes for the day.

Mary Rutan Urgent Care and Health Center is currently closed, along with the Goble Center and the Crawfis Imaging Center.

Mary Rutan Hospital is open, and facilities along Sloan Boulevard, including plastic surgery, general surgery, urology, gastroenterology and internal medicine are accepting patients as usual.

Traffic to Hunter Place is closed while repairs are affected and is expected to remain so for some time.

Logan County Jobs and Family Services employees now working from the former AcuSport building along Hunter Place have been asked to remain in their building to avoid traffic congestion while repairs are made.

Calls to the Bellefontaine Police Department and other emergency services agencies in the city are currently being routed to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, whose dispatchers report being “swamped.” Please avoid making non-emergency calls, if possible.

Check back for updates.
