A two-way standout for the Riverside football program during his career, Simon Godwin is now headed for the college game.
Godwin was recently recognized at Riverside with a ceremony to announce his intention to play for Muskingum University, an NCAA Division III program located in eastern Ohio.
“I love the campus and the coaches there,” said Godwin of his decision. “I also love how small it is.”
Godwin was a key contributor on both defense and offense for the Pirates.
As a senior, he was named to the all-Three Rivers Conference team as both a wide receiver and defensive back.
On offense, Godwin led the TRC in receiving yards with 777. He made 42 receptions, averaging 18.5 yards per grab and had eight touchdowns.
On defense, Godwin recorded 65 tackles, with 38 solo stops. He also had seven tackles for loss, picked off three passes and recovered a fumble.
Godwin said his goal at Muskingum is to start by his sophomore season. He feels like he has the traits to make an impact for the Muskies on the field.
“I adapt really well and I work hard,” he said. “I know that I will have to compete and play my best every day”
Muskingum is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies went 5-5 overall and 4-5 in the OAC last season.
