Pedestrian struck in parking lot succumbs to injuries

A pedestrian struck in the parking lot of a local grocery store Tuesday, Feb, 28, has succumbed to his injuries.

Earl Cushman, 90, of West Liberty, passed away from injuries sustained after he was struck in the parking lot of Kroger, 2129 S. Main St. Police report he was walking with a walker towards the store entrance when he was struck by a car driven by Ronald Zimmerman, 76, of Zanesfield. Zimmerman reportedly was trying to find a parking spot and failed to see Cushman walking and hit him with his vehicle, knocking him to the ground.

Cushman was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital, and later to Lima Memorial Hospital where he passed away.

Zimmerman was cited at the time for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.
