A pedestrian was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon, March 17, on a crosswalk by Mary Rutan Hospital.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report Michelle L. Hamm, 45, sustained suspected serious injuries and was first treated by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS at the scene before she was transported to the Columbus hospital.

Officers viewed report Hamm was walking along north Madriver Street and proceeded westbound onto the crosswalk, but did not press the crosswalk button, they confirmed on video surveillance provided by Genric Security.

Hamm was struck by a southbound 2014 Honda CR-V operated by Chad H. Woodruff, 52, of Urbana, about 3:30 p.m.

Woodruff said he had a green light and did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Officers also observed in the video that Hamm had a “solid red hand” on the crosswalk signal before entering the crosswalk area, signaling that it was not safe to cross the street.

Damage to the CR-V was light and Woodruff was released from the scene, officers said.
