Crews from Fillmore Construction of Leesburg put the finishing touches on the southern stretch of the walking path at Blue Jacket Park Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 2.
After removing all of the asphalt on the walking track last week, along with the top layer near the parking lot and between the concession stand, the baseball and softball fields, the asphalt was repurposed, a new base was laid, and the track was widened from 6 to 8 feet.
A significant amount of the $175,000 designated for the project came from a grant received by the Parks and Recreation Department.
The original completion date was scheduled for Oct. 1, but the lingering effects of Hurricane Helene forced a short delay. The crews onsite Wednesday said that the job should be done and the track reopened by Thursday afternoon, Oct. 3.
