Patricia Ann (Tuffnell) Carter, 87, of Bellefontaine passed away Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the Campbell Place in Bellefontaine.

She was born May 2, 1936 in Essex County, England, to the late Richard Henry and Doris Rose (Jones) Tuffnell. On April, 28, 1956 in Romford-Essex County, England she married the love of her life Carre Richard Carter, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her sons, Mark Antony Carter and Robert “Shaun” Carter; son-in-law, Patrick Shawn Winters; brother-in-law, Benny Hudgins.

After arriving in the United States in 1957 she became a US citizen in 1974 and became the Matriarch of our South Detroit Street neighborhood family for 62 years. She served as president for the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #2166.

During her years she was instrumental in raising funds for the American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, The Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund, the March of Dimes and Scholarships for our local youth. Pat was an active member of the Bellefontaine Athletic Boosters for many years. She received the Booster of the year award for all of her hard work and dedication. Pat enjoyed helping prepare and serve the Bellefontaine football and basketball teams their team meals before games.

Pat enjoyed her family vacations to the beach and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed knitting and took great pride in knitting outfits and toys for her grandchildren when they were born.

She is survived by her children, Kerri (Barney) Sullivan, Stacey (Jack) Stahler, Jennifer (Gregg) DeMent and Gary (Sheri) Carter; fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Patty Carter; siblings, Jacynth Hudgins, Sandra (Dennis) Corsaro and Beverley (Paul) Strobel; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Grandsons Andy Carter and Tony Carter will officiate a Funeral Service Saturday, September 16, at 5 p.m. at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will take place from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
