While they are natives of Lima, Ohio, Dr. Scott Kayatin and his wife Hayley have quickly felt at home in Bellefontaine and Logan County ever since they settled in the area a few years ago.

They feel blessed to provide quality chiropractic care and therapeutic massage through the growing Family Chiropractic & Massage, 412 E. Columbus Ave., Bellefontaine, serving as a one-stop holistic shop that is able to meet the needs of patients of all ages, from infants and children through senior citizens.

“It is a huge honor to serve this way in the community,” said the business owner and sole treating chiropractor Dr. Kayatin, who took over the former Family Chiropractic Center of Logan County in November 2021 from Dr. Jim Tassell following his retirement.

“The name of our center really fits with our mission. We are very family-focused and want to get to know our patients and their entire families to help them live their best lives.

“We offer affordable holistic care that doesn’t break the bank.”

The couple are parents to four children, ages 1-12, and it’s through their parenting experiences that they’ve found a real passion for introducing chiropractic care and massage to the littlest of patients, noting the inherent health benefits.

“Touch is one of the first senses that you’re born with,” Mrs. Kayatin said. “It’s so important that infants and young children experience physical touch and closeness. It’s vital to healthy development and nervous systems.”

“They need that muscle stretching and movement as much as adults do,” Dr. Kayatin said.

In fact, Mrs. Kayatin recently joined the practice as a licensed massage therapist after their family experienced the first-hand benefits of massage for their daughter, who turns 6 in September.

The soon-to-be kindergartner was previously experiencing trouble sleeping and has some neurodivergent issues, including attention deficit disorder, her parents said. Therapeutic massage helped to calm her system and has greatly helped her to regulate her sleep as well.

In addition to sleep disturbances, Dr. Kayatin noted that pediatric chiropractic care can benefit patients experiencing difficulty nursing, reflux, colic, constipation, sensory processing disorders, epilepsy, speech delays, motor skill delays, social/emotional delays, and respiratory and immune challenges. He offers free gentle touch spinal manipulation to children of established patients, ages infant through 3.

Dr. Kayatin said he knew during high school that he wanted to work in the healthcare field. It was after tearing his ACL playing sports and subsequent physical therapy that sparked his interest in helping others with physical rehabilitation.

Following his 2008 graduation from Lima Central Catholic High School, he attended the University of Cincinnati and obtained his bachelor’s degree in allied health sciences. Then Dr. Kayatin attended the New York Chiropractic College for 3 ½ years.

After graduating with honors with his chiropractic degree, Dr. Kayatin has been in practice since 2016. First he worked a short stint in Lima, and then served an associate at an office in Urbana for about five to six years.

While Dr. Kayatin was employed in Urbana, his family moved to the Bellefontaine area and he soon developed a friendship with Dr. Tassell.

“We had a real shared interest in working out and physical fitness, and in chiropractic care,” the city resident said. “Dr. Tassell had a successful business here for more than 20 years.

“He started investing in me. He really believed in me and was like a chiropractic father figure. I’m so grateful for his guidance and mentorship.”

Dr. Kayatin is further certified in Dry Needling Therapy, Instrument Assisted soft tissue Mobilization technique and RockTape.

“I am passionate about educating my patients and followers on how to be active participants in their health and wellness through stretches, exercises, and ergonomics,” he said, noting he regularly posts helpful tutorial videos to Family Chiropractic & Massage’s Facebook page and Instagram.

“Everyone’s an athlete to a certain level, and it’s good to find the exercises that work for you in your own home.”

In addition to Mrs. Kayatin, who focuses on relaxing Swedish massage and pediatric massage, the practice also has two other licensed massage therapists — Kamala Titlow and K. Keith Calland. Mr. Calland specializes in cranio/sacral massage, along with blended modalities and relaxation and medical massage.

Just this summer, a family nurse practitioner also joined the team at Family Chiropractic & Massage. McKenzie Hurley offers mobile urgent care services, IV hydration, exams, sports physicals, weight management, continuity of care and more through New Age Medical Services.

The Kayatin family and Family Chiropractic and Massage also love participating in various events and giving back to the community, including through the upcoming Rock the Lake concert at Oldfield Beach, set for Saturday, Aug. 3.

They also are strong supporters of local charitable organizations, including the United Way of Logan County and Raising Arrows, a non-profit organization that serves local foster families. Mrs. Kayatin said they are excited to participate in an upcoming monthly raffle drawing for Raising Arrows, where foster children will be able to win a certificate for a free massage.
