Passenger arrested on drug charges following traffic stop

Andrew Gilbert, 36, of Urbana, was charged with multiple felony drug-related charges following a 4:54 p.m. traffic stop executed Monday, Nov. 6, by officers of the Washington Township Police Department in the area of State Route 235 near County Road 27.

Officers on patrol observed a vehicle with multiple equipment violations and initiated the stop.

Upon making contact with the driver, criminal indicators were observed and the driver of the vehicle consented to a search. As Gilbert, a passenger, exited the vehicle, officers reportedly observed him throw a canister containing methamphetamine under the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle uncovered multiple Ohio driver’s licenses and credit cards belonging to various individuals among Gilbert’s belongings. He was charged with tampering with evidence, possession of drugs and identity fraud and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
