Paranoid suspect lodged

BellefontainePolice Patch-200Vernon Jackson, 33, of Bellefontaine, was jailed around 10:15 p.m. Monday, March 20, after officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to his apartment and found him in charge of watching three young children while he was high on drugs.

Officers were dispatched to the suspect’s apartment on Kristina Drive after he called 911 and reported there were people inside the apartment threatening to kill him with a gun.

When officers arrived Jackson told them he was babysitting for three children under the age of 12, and that he was hearing other voices in the apartment.

Officers searched the apartment and found no one else inside. They spoke with the children who told them that Jackson had been complaining of hearing voices.

Officers observed physical signs of drug abuse from Jackson, and found him to be paranoid. A machete was recovered from his person. Asked about his drug use, the suspect admitted to having snorted methamphetamine earlier in the day. He was also told police the location of another bag of suspected methamphetamine located just outside the front door of his apartment.

A sober adult was contacted to come take care of the children. Jackson was charged with possession of methamphetamine and endangering children and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
