Officers of the Washington Township Police Department report two defendants were arrested following a high-speed pursuit that ended in the suspect vehicle crashing along State Route 274 Sunday evening, Aug. 6.

Steven Jeanneret, 29 of Huntsville, was charged with felony counts of failure to comply and obstruction official business.

Kyle Cooper, 31, of Huntsville, was charged with felony counts of complicity to failure to comply and obstruction official business.

About 5 p.m., officers were on patrol on State Route 274 near County Road 61 and observed a vehicle being driven by Jeanneret. Officers were aware that he did not have a valid driver’s license and turned around on the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop.

However, officers said Jeanneret quickly accelerated his vehicle to speeds of 90 plus mph. He then failed to stop at the red light at State Route 274 and State Route 235.

The defendant reportedly continued westbound on S.R. 274 and passed two vehicles at a high rate of speed.

He then continued down S.R. 274 and attempted to make a turn onto County Road 21. Due to Jeanneret’s excessive speed, he failed to slow down for the turn and lost control of his vehicle and struck a telephone pole.

The defendant then attempted to accelerate out of the ditch but was unable to due to damage to his vehicle.

Officers observed movement inside of the vehicle and Jeanneret and the other occupant inside of the vehicle, Cooper, did not comply.

They said the passenger side window rolled down and Jeanneret was now in the passenger seat and Kyle Cooper, 31 of Huntsville was in the driver’s seat. Both were ordered out of the vehicle. Once outside of the vehicle, Cooper reportedly was uncooperative and did not follow commands.

He was advised K9 Bruno was going to be sent to apprehend him if he did not comply. Jeanneret quickly complied and stated not to send K9 Bruno.

Once additional Washington Township Officers and Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, both defendants were taken into custody.

Cooper stated that Jeanneret was driving the vehicle and when they crashed Steven asked him to switch seats so he wouldn’t get into trouble.

When asked why he would do that, he stated he did it because he lives with Jeanneret and would not have a place to live if he didn’t.

They were both lodged in the Logan County Jail.
