Kenneth Sparks, 42 of Toledo, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs relating to a traffic stop Thursday, May 11.

Officers of the Washington Township Police Department initiated the stop with a vehicle driven by Sparks about 9:20 p.m. on Main Street near Lincoln Boulevard in Russells Point for an equipment violation.

Upon making contact with the driver, signs of impairment were observed. He was asked how much alcohol he consumed and he stated he didn’t consume any alcohol.

Sparks was asked to submit to field sobriety tests and he reportedly refused. A search of the defendant’s vehicle was conducted and open containers were located.

He was placed into the rear of a patrol car and he reportedly began yelling and cursing at officers. Once at the Logan County Jail, Sparks was uncooperative and placed in the restraint chair. He refused to submit to a breath test.

Additional charges of child endangering and open container were sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers said Sparks’s 14-year-old son was in the vehicle with him at the time of the traffic stop. The child was released to a family member.

Meth recovered during traffic stop

Brandon Loughman, 31, of Piqua, was charged with possession of drugs during a traffic stop about 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

Officers conducted the stop with Loughman’s vehicle in the area of State Route 235 near Township Road 215 for a license plate violation.

Upon making contact with the driver, signs of drug use were observed. K9 Bruno was deployed on the vehicle and alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted and methamphetamine reportedly was located inside of the vehicle. An open container of alcohol was also located.

Loughman was taken into custody and transported to the jail. He also was cited for open container in a motor vehicle and driving under suspension
