OVI arrests logged

BellefontainePolice Patch-200Zane Grandi, 34, of Russells Point, was arrested following a traffic stop executed around around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Officers on patrol in the area of south Main Street and Chillicothe Avenue observed a vehicle operated by the suspect without its headlights on. A traffic stop was initiated in the 100 block of east Chillicothe Avenue.
Signs alcohol impairment were observed, and Grandi attempted a series of field sobriety tests that he could not successfully complete.
He was transported to the police station where he refused to provide a breath sample.
The suspect was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was released to a sober person.
• Dalton Smith, 31, of DeGraff, was charged with a felony in addition to OVI and failure to control after officers observed him traveling at an excessive speed around 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17.
An officer out on an unrelated call with witnesses initially heard the truck revving its engine and driving erratically and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. As officers pursued the suspect abruptly turned onto north Troy Road and it was swerving all over the roadway. Smoke was observed coming from the rear tires of the truck.
The suspect truck turned onto west Chillicothe Avenue, stopped and turned the lights and engine off.
Law enforcement caught up with the suspect and immediate signs of intoxication were observed. Smith denied consuming alcohol and declined to take any field sobriety tests. He unssccessully attempted to contact a lawyer during his conversation with officers.
Smith was arrested and charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officers, OVI and failure to control and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Suspect arrested for possession of drugs
Devin Pettit, 20, of Kenton, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and two counts of possession of drugs following 12:38 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, incident with law enforcement at a business in the 100 block of north Detroit St.
Officers on patrol observed a vehicle being operated by the suspect parked illegally on the private lot and made contact. Pettit said he did not have a valid driver’s license and was acting suspiciously towards law enforcement.
He had suspected crack cocaine on his person and refused to take his hand from his pocket to turn it over to law enforcement.
Officers forced the suspect to the ground to arrest him. During the struggle, two bags of suspected crack cocaine and a metal crack pipe fell to the ground.

Petit was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
